He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

You Shall Remember, Part 2

Deu 8:2-4, 2 And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, …4 Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.

The first remembrance was of the Lord as a provider (providence of God) for Israel 40 years in the wilderness. The 2nd remembrance is that of “preservation of the Lord”. As they left Egypt, they had the favor of the Lord, the Egyptians gave them clothing to preserve them until they reached their destination, Canaan. In addition as they left, there was no one sick, feeble or lame. It was believed that the journey should have taken about 40 days had they been obedient to God’s leading and providence. But even in their stubbornness, they were still preserved for 40 years in the wilderness.

God rather than give them new clothing/garments chose to preserve what they already had and their health. God himself took particular care of their food, raiment, and health. Israel needed to remember that the God who clothed them is the same God who preserved them. The righteousness of Christ is often compared to raiments/garments which never gets old, wear out or decays. We need to remember that are clothed and preserved in His righteousness all our years in this wilderness called earth.
