Psa 34:1-3, 1 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth…3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.
In recent years, I have observed a significant inclusion of uplifting and inspirational songs in worship services. Inspirational songs are good but in their rightful place. The problem is that most don’t not necessarily convey explicit expressions of praise and worship towards God. We say it’s not about us and then make it about us. Many of our worship songs today are “ME” centered (just take a few and read the lyrics). The essence of praise and worship lies NOT solely in acknowledging what God has done, is doing, and will do for us, but rather in focusing on His divine attributes such as His worth, power, and beauty.
In various psalms, including this one, David expresses his deep admiration and reverence for God. He acknowledges God’s honor, praise, glory and blessings in relation to His creation and divine guidance. David is in awe of God’s greatness and encourages others to recognize and appreciate His true nature. He uplifts God’s name, elevating it above all others. A truly meaningful act of worship involves exalting Christ, giving Him the highest place of honor, and less focusing on human experience.
