Deu 8:6-9, 6 Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. …
God speaking through Moses had a few instructions for Israel before they made it to the promised land. The first as we saw in the previous devotionals was a command to remember. This by progression was followed with “You shall keep”, that is God’s commandments in looking forward. The first was the Lord’s duty to men to be remembered followed by the duty or the responsibility of men to be follow in the light of God’s bountiful dealing with such sinful people.
But this command was not only in relation to who God is and what He had done for them, Israel’s continued blessings would be conditioned to their obedience, walk in His ways and their reverence/worship/fear of the Lord. To Joshua the new leader after Moses He says , “7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 The Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Jos 1:7-8). Joshua was to set the tone for the rest. Mens actions are often compared to ways, or steps by which they come to the end they aim at.
