Act 27:20 When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.
Luke gives an account of their sailing to Italy. Paul was on board as a prisoner destined to give his defense for the gospel in Rome. He already perceived disaster on the way, but not even the captain of the ship would listen to him. Danger came as he anticipated and all their lives were in danger and there was no sign of rescue.
For some this year may have started so well, sailing through calm waters day by day. But as the year progressed, storms of life of every kind posed a threat to you and those on board with you. New challenges with sickness, loss of income, troubled marriage, children, and even troubled ministry drained life and faith out of you. It felt like sailing in the dark for many days with no sign of the sun or stars to present hope and better days. When “…all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned”, we needed to be reminded that we are still here held by His hands. God assured Paul that no life would be lost. We in similar fashion have the word of the Lord as the anchor that holds us through life’s storms. His word gives comfort and assurance that though the storms may be there, and there may be some losses, the fact that we are alive is a testimony. 2Cor 3:4-5 “4 Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God“. How do you know you weathered through the storm?, you are still here.

What powerful ending and beginning of a New Year. I am blessed, and reminded that Christ is my anchor, and that He has given me His Word upfront so that I can stand thriugh the test. I am therefore well advised hereby to hold on to His Word of promise, because God doesn’t fail.
amen, that is the spirit. Happy blessed new year
