He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

The Purpose Of Prayer, Part 2

Mat 6:10 …your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

There is a distinction between “God’s sovereign will” and “His preceptive or revealed will“. God’s sovereign will (secret) is vastly hidden from us revealed sometimes later. His preceptive or revealed will is available for us. The preceptive will is declared concerning what we should or should not do e.g. do not steal, love your enemies, repent etc. These expression of God’s will is revealed both in His Word and in our conscience (His moral law written upon the hearts of all men). The other side of His perceptive will is not clear cut (direct answers from God) and must be fetched by prayer and the word for wisdom on application in cases like who to marry, what house to buy, what job to get etc

Rom 12:2 guides us in the perceptive will. It reads “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the RENEWAL of your MIND, that by TESTING you may DISCERN what is the WILL OF GOD, …” Conversion and sanctification are the agents of renewing the mind, a change not of the substance, but of the qualities of the soul. A change in will, direction, and purpose. Knowing the will of God is established on these two, “be not conformed“, “but be transformed” that by use of prayer and the Word you may test/prove/discern the perfect (complete) revealed will of God. Christian renewal imparts not only the will and power to do God’s will, but also intelligence to discern it. What we are testing, does it align with His word, is it to advance His kingdom or ours, will it benefit others? God first, others second, you third.
