Phi 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
This verse and Jer 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope“ are often quoted/preached in reference to goals, achievements, success. To study these verses carefully in context with the entire chapter in mind, you discover that they were not written for the “achievers” but for the “endurers”
The climax of verse 13 has in mind certain kinds of people. It is not for those who want to be successful in life. The message is that of contentment in the person and work of Christ. That His presence in the life of a believer is enough to carry them through all life obstacles especially when they are advancing His cause. Are you going through tough times?, take comfort, God has these verses for YOU, you qualify. Looking for success? These don’t apply to you. All things are possible to those who derive their daily strength from God.
