Gen 1:1 In the beginning God…
Happy blessed New Year. What a better way to start the new year with the book of the beginnings, Genesis. The 1st vs unlocks the key to all things, God, the Supreme Being signifying, “Strong,” “Mighty.” I observe His attributes outlined in these three facts. 1. God is omnipotent, He is all-powerful. 2. God is omniscient, He is all-knowing. 3. God as omnipresent, He is present everywhere. The Bible provides a doctrine clearly revealed in other parts of it, namely, that though God is one, there is a plurality of persons in the Godhead – Father, Son, and Spirit, who were engaged in the creative work. The Bible does not start by attempting to prove the existence of God, God has already embedded that knowledge in our minds.
This opening verse is powerful, it gives the entire Bible foundation, meaning, life, and worth. It sets the tone for our understanding that God created the universe and reigns supremely over it. God is the CREATOR of all things, SUSTAINER of all things, and JUDGE of all things. We need this book of beginning especially this verse to remind us that it is God who is the author and finisher of our lives. He gives meaning to life and sustains it, Act 17:28 “for in Him we live and move and have our being…” We must start the new year by being reminded of these truths for He says in Joh 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” Without God, this new year is meaningless, therefore we must go back to the beginning and lay a foundation. Don’t start this New Year without God.
