Psa 40:1-2, 1… And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. 2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, …
David now offers his testimony that God answered his prayers. He gives credit to God who pulled him from a horrible pit and out of the miry clay. Christ in agony, both in the garden of Gethsemane and on the cross labored in prayer as He faced the horrible pit and the miry clay. His soul was troubled and exceedingly sorrowful, but He prayed. He kept hold of His relations to His Father, and thus waited patiently for Him.
In the light of what Christ did for us, we have such confidence to also go through the pit and the miry clay and come out victoriously. But how? #1. By grace, He tasted death for everyone (Heb 2:9). #2. That through His death He might destroy him who had the power of death (Heb 2:14). #3. Through His death, He released those through fear of death were held in bondage (Heb 2:15). #4. Through His death, He now aids in prayer the seed of Abraham (Heb 2:16). #5. He was made like us that through His death that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest (Heb 2:17). # 6. Through His suffering and trials, He is able to aid those tempted and tried (Heb 2:18). The testimony of deliverance is linked to Christ’s finished work on the cross.
