Mat 14:22-34, 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
Peter walked on water supported, enabled and held up by the power of Christ. What caused him to begin to sink? Perhaps he became mesmerized by the supernatural (miracle) walk that he lost his focus on Christ, and fear came in. Preoccupation with miracles (blessings) can easily shift our focus off of Christ.
Jabez in the OT had one simple effective prayer 1Ch 4:10 “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.” In the blessing he requested of the Lord, he asked for the Lord’s hand to be and remain on him and keep him from evil. Jesus is the giver and the object of our faith, the moment our focus is off Him to even that which is good, we are bound sink. We must keep our eyes on Him, He must keep His hands on us and He must keep us from the evil one if we are to make it.
