1Ki 17:2-3, Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall drink from the brooks, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there”.
Elijah’s prophecy of 3 year drought did sure impact him too, but God preserved a brook for His chosen. In addition, He commanded ravens to feed him with bread and meat. We can attempt to make sense of the brook, but how do we explain the provision of bread and meat? Where did they come from? who was baking the bread and barbecuing the meat? and how is it that the ravens did not even attempt to eat the food, and how did they know where Elijah was? We will never fully grasp how God works but we sure love His provisions and preservations.
He takes less and accomplishes much with it. He can use even the ravens, a picture of the heathens, unsaved, unredeemed to accomplish His purposes. His ways are not our ways. The God who provided and preserved Elijah is able to do the same for us in our days, months and even years of drought. Let us trust Him even when it does not make sense.
