Psa 103:1 A Psalm Of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
David is present, engaging in deep introspection and offering praise and adoration to the Almighty worthy of it all. While he acknowledges that he cannot give material possessions to God, he presents intangible offerings in the form of praises that bring joy to the Lord. The purpose of his praise is not solely based on what God can do for him, but rather on who God is. David consciously resolves, from the depths of his soul, to dedicate all the rightful praise to the Lord.
David comprehends that God delights in praises and dwells among those who offer them. Similar to Abel, he chooses to present to God what originates from within him. In Psalm 34:1-3, David declares, “I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall boast in the LORD; the humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.” God deserves to be served with the best we possess, including our material possessions and our very beings. It is our hearts, or souls, that He desires the most as an offering.
