1Ki 17:15-16, 15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke by Elijah.
The widow that was promised provision by Elijah the prophet ate with her household for many days (roughly over 2 years). There are 2 things from her story I found very encouraging, 1. There was no sign of increase in flour and oil, it just says they never ran out. God supplied as they needed (they had just enough). 2. For over two years they seemed to eat the same kind of meals without complaining. Earlier, God for a year had supplied Elijah with meat and bread supplied twice a day, and now he had no meat at all. He and the widow’s household were grateful they had food.
In a time of general scarcity, it is promised to those that trust in God that they shall not be ashamed in the evil times for in the days of famine they shall be satisfied (Psa 37:19). Therefore, 1. We need to be appreciative of what we have or have access to. It may meet a need and perhaps not a want. 2.The company of a true prophet makes even the little pleasant. God with us is better even with less than more without Him.
