1The 5:17 Pray without ceasing
Believers are instructed to pray without ceasing. It does not matter whether things are getting better as you pray or getting worse, we should continue to pray. The Bible does not give us the point we should stop praying for something. God told David that his son would not live, yet David still prayed and prayed, and after his son died is when he stopped praying and shifted to worship God.
This aspect of praying without ceasing reminds me of the days of flint. If the first stroke did not bring forth fire, you had to strike again and again without giving up, in some cases dozens of times before spark of fire materialized. People were thankful enough if they succeeded at last. Shall we not be as persevering and hopeful as to heavenly things? Hence the need for perseverance and importunity in prayer. We are more certain of God answering us than our flint and steel exercise for we have God’s promises at our back. 1Jn 5:14 “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”
