Act 3:2 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.
Luke brings to light the nature of a man lame from birth and was over 40yrs old (Act 4:22). Those who saw him at the gate had known him since he was young. It is interesting that they don’t call him by his name but by his condition. Where they daily brought him was common for the unfortunate whose conditions would appeal to the multitudes entering for worship. It appears that the worshippers at this temple were more generous with their alms otherwise why would they keep bringing him to the same place daily.
From a spiritual standpoint, we ought to be moved and look with compassion upon the unsaved, poor, unfortunate. They remind us of what we all were by nature spiritually without strength, lame from our birth, unable to work or walk in God’s service. When we recall what we used to be, in humility our prayers and our alms will go together because our hearts have been warmed by remembrance of our humble beginnings.
