Eph 5:15-17, 15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil…
Godly marriage calls for walking in wisdom, that is Paul’s third point. Paul says, be very careful, then, how you live, not as unwise but wise especially in the times we are living in. Before one can exercise wisdom, he needs knowledge which deals with information, facts, awareness. Wisdom is a good sense shown in a way of thinking and making sensible decisions and judgments based on personal knowledge and experience. From a scriptural viewpoint, knowledge is the securing of scriptural truth. At that point, wisdom becomes the application of biblical truth. Prov 9:10 “the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge.
He proceeds, Eph 5:17 “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” The first order of wisdom is to acquire knowledge of the word of God, then like Solomon ask for wisdom on how to apply knowledge.
Paul admonishes us to understand what the will of God is. You want to have and maintain a godly marriage, seek the wisdom/will of God which begins with 1Th 5:16-18, “16 Rejoice always 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Wisdom discerns and directs on application. Wisdom is a life of sacrifice. Zeal with little or no wisdom is fatal, we need the fear of the Lord the beginning of wisdom, Prov 9:10.
