2Ch 15:3 For a long time Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law;…” (b)
The book of Judges opens with the death of Joshua. At this point Israel remained strong subduing nations. But right before the end of chapter 1, Israel began to compromise. Rather than drive out the other tribes as they had done before, they enslaved them with hard labor and even married some of their women. The earlier command, Jdg 2:2 “and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars…‘ and because they did not listen, God had this to say vs. ”3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.”
Whenever morals are compromised for gains, it is just a matter of time before we realize the grounds surrendered and those impacted. To ignore God and His message is to silence conscience, the place in tune with God’s moral codes. And God says what you allow shall become thorns on your side, and the gods of this world shall ensnare you because His hand of rescue will not be present. Therefore, “Never leave an enemy behind or it will rise again to fly at your throat“ (Shaka Zulu).
