Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go,..
I began the series with a devotional titled “A World Of Confusion” followed by a few providing hope. In revisiting this verse in Pro 22:6 I discover the word “train” in Hebrew literally means “initiate” a child in accordance with His way. Train them up, not in the way they “would go”, but in the way they “should go”, the way in which, if you love them, you would have them go. To tell a child what is to be done is a very valuable thing, but to show them how it is done is far more valuable. Young men need to be groomed into godly husbands, fathers, ministers in church or outside of church, in their vocation. Same with the young women. The power of one’s example is the power of character.
Every parent has the responsibility to disciple their children by living a sample of grace before them, train them in the way they should go, and labor for them in prayers to abide and remain in Christ. Heb 11:23-24, “23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command. 24 By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,”. It starts with faith FOR the children that leads to faith OF the children. This has to be God working through parents and in the hearts of the children.
