Psa 40:2… And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.
A person delivered from something must be set on something lest they fall back to what they were delivered from. Christ is the rock on which a poor soul may stand fast. This is beautifully encouraged in this hymn, ”My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus name. Chorus: On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other grounds are sinking sand, all other grounds are sinking sand.”
The God who set David’s feet upon the rock also established his steps. He made His step firm in Him. He continued in the establishment of his goings. Where God has given a stedfast hope, He expects there to be a steady regular drive to abide in Him. We have reasons to acknowledge Him, with abundance of thankfulness, the riches and power of His grace.
With this song we make a declaration, “In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my light, my strength, my song. This cornerstone, this solid ground. Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace? When fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My comforter, my all in all. Here in the love of Christ I stand”
