He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

The Right Use Of Our Tongue

Jas 3:8-10, 9 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

The Bible does not explicitly state that the tongue is untamable; rather, it conveys that mankind is unable to tame it without God’s aid.

In today’s reflection, I emphasize the impact of talking to self or about self. Many individuals speak words of defeat and curses over themselves, rather than speaking words of encouragement and hope like David did. Instead of using their words to uplift and inspire, they use like a knife to cut their own throats now bleeding to death. The Bible tells us that the words we speak are a reflection of what is in our own hearts (Luke 6:45). This instrument of speech can be used DESTRUCTIVELY or employed CONSTRUCTIVELY. While we may struggle to control our tongues, God has the power to help us use our words for good. It is by surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus Christ can we learn to speak words that glorify God, build ourselves and build others up.
