Psa 27:1 The Lord is MY light and MY salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of MY life- of whom shall I be afraid?
These words claim a close relation to God. They profess an entire allegiance to God, trusting His guidance, looking to God to light the path of those who trust in Him in the midst of darkness and terror by night. Jesus Christ is the true Light, hence those momentous words, “I Am the Light of the world,” and the reason for that confession of the Christian, “the Lord is my Light”. In addition, He is my salvation, in whom I am safe and by whom I shall be saved. To know and walk in these truths is to walk in confidence.
It is very important to personalize what the Lord is to you. To generalize is to give a picture of God’s care if in a group. When you understand who God is to you, you can confidently refer to Him us “my light and my salvation” trusting that when you call upon Him, He will answer. The Psalmist knows that he has enemies and an army stationed against him, but with God on his side, he is set even if there are more armies against him. 1Tim 1:12 “…For I am persuaded that He is able…” meaning I am more than convinced that He can, and He will watch to perform His word. I will therefore be confident not in myself but in Him.
