Rom 8:26-27, 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27…because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Picture if you will the work of an attorney or an advocate. An advocate, in law, is a person who is professionally qualified to plead the cause of another in a court of law. A person can present their case before a judge, however an advocate is better in preparation (of you and the case) and presentation (of your case) in legal terms too deep for your understanding. What makes an advocate better than a lawyer/attorney is this, an advocate fights for your case, believes in the fight, wants whats fair, cares about you, on call 24/7. A lawyer may just want to win a case.
The Spirit as our advocate prepares and strengthens us to pray while praying for us with groanings too deep for words. Often in our ignorance we do not know how to pray what is best for us. The comfort we all should have is that the sure success of these intercessions is His prayers for the saints in accordance with the will of the Father. He knows and He feels what we feel. Note the emphasis of the Spirit praying with groanings and not the man with the Spirit. I can rest on knowing I am not fighting alone.
