Gen 3:21 And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
A garment is a type of coat or robe especially used for official purposes. After the fall of man and his need to cover himself, God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife. The Lord did not tell them what to do and how to do it, He did it for them. This was the first death of an animal as a sacrifice.
The clothing with garments is noteworthy as detailed in Exo 28:1-5. God instructed Moses to clothe the priests., vs ”2 Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron, to give him dignity and honor, 3, “… for his consecration, so he may serve me as a priest”. That is the covering Aaron needed for dignity, honor, and consecration. This is a portrayal of what God did for sinful men. He offered Jesus as a sacrifice that by His death He might clothe us with His garments of righteousness. By this act He made us priests to minister to Him daily. Only God could clothe us with dignity and honor by sending His Son to the cross to die for the shamed human race. We are therefore commanded to, “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ … “ (Rom 13:14) for our dignity and honor, consecrated/set apart for the Master’s service. This is the work of God, He provided the garments and furthermore He clothed Adam, Eve and us all who have believed in Him.
