Lam 3:25 The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.
The befitting story to better illuminate this verse is that of Zechariah the priest. In Luke 1:5-6, Luke introduces Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth as righteous before God and blameless in their walk. They were also advanced in age but with no child. Zechariah was serving God in the temple and continued in prayers even past the age of expectation. It was while he was serving (waiting) and praying (seeking) that the Lord remembered him and sent his angel to bring him good news of a son, John (the Baptist) to be born to them.
Sometimes an answer is deferred for long time to try the faith and patience of the saints. Zachariah is a testimony of this. He waited and waited, and as he waited, both him and his wife continued to age but he remained faithful serving. It’s in times like these that we discover the more the wisdom, power, and goodness of God. This is what it means to wait for God’s timing without doubting His love. We are indeed preserved in His goodness. The goodness of our God leads to joy as we see with Zechariah, “And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth”(Luk 1:14).
