1Sa 30:8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”
David having failed at some point to involve God in his plans sought the Lord during one of his most darkest times in life. An enemy had descended in their camp and captured their wives, children, and possessions in their absence. Now God didn’t have to hear David’s plea or add the word “shall surely” and “without fail” for His word to be true but He did. God’s emphasis was an additional encouragement to David, it’s was like saying, “you have my word, you can take it to the bank”.
David went after his enemies not because he had battle warriors, but because he had God’s assured word of direction and promise. Our God delights in us seeking His help in our times of distress, and He goes above and beyond what we ask or imagine (Eph 3:20). “So gracious is our God, that He considers even the degree of our necessities, and accommodates Himself to them”, (John Wesley). 1Jn 5:14 “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
