1Co 10:12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
Presumption is the greatest of all dangers. It counts on self confidence to stand. He who realizes his danger zones will be on his guard. Peter presumed that he was strong enough to never deny Christ. A man after God’s own heart David, the strongest man Samson and the wisest man Solomon all fell at some point in their lives. One thing they had in common, they all thought they fit to stand.
Those who have confidence in flesh may isolate or expose themselves to numerous dangers (sin, false teachings etc) thinking they are strong enough to stand and overcome, only to fall. Peter and the rest of the disciples knowing too well of their past failures resolved in their hearts to depend on the power of the Holy Spirit and not lean on their own understanding. To stand and stay strong, “…they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers” (Act 2:42).
