Joh 11:38-39, 38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”
Christ had the power to raise Lazarus from the dead. He also had the power to remove the stone first, however He told those present to take away the stone. He had total control of both yet it took upon Himself to handle the impossible, raise the dead and instruct others to be participants of His doing rather than be spectators.
The spiritual lesson we can glean from this passage is this, while we cannot give life (salvation) to the dead in sin, we as believers have 3 responsibilities. We can remove stones from their tomb of by simply being Christ-like before them, interceding and witnessing to them. That’s all we can do to reach our unsaved loved ones and everyone else. Salvation is indeed of the Lord. The gospel carries with it the omnipotence of God, whose power alone is sufficient to save men from sin and give them eternal life. Let us be participants in this call.
