Ruth 1:15-17, 16 But Ruth said: “ Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; …”
Ruth represents believers awakened to God’s call. She was in no better situation in comparison to the other two. She had but one thing going for her, she had a different spirit. No amount of reasoning could persuade her to return to her people or remain where she was. Naomi and Ruth were women of faith with wounded past but they needed each other in this journey. Ruth would not part from Naomi, she cleaved unto her in body and mind; forsaking her own people.
This is the picture of christians serving God because He is worthy. The call is to yoke ourselves to the sovereign will and purposes of Christ. It’s been a call from self-will, ruling one’s own life, living to please one’s self to gratify one’s self to living for God. At crossroads Ruth resolved to go wherever Naomi would go with a life that promised nothing in return. That is commitment the Lord blesses. In this call Rom 8:35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?…”
