Mat 4:7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
Preservation in danger is divinely pledged. The danger here is to presume God’s provision on partly quoted scripture to suit a good thing pursued in a bad way. When Satan quoted the verse, “He shall give his angels charge concerning you”, like a false adviser he quoted Psa 91:11 to justify his request, but left out the remainder of the vs. “…to keep you in all your ways,” which follows the first clause. The promise is limited to those who walk in the way appointed to them not those who create their own and presume to use God’s provision.
We have enough false advisers calling themselves pastors, teachers, prophets subtly used by Satan to give half verses, taken out of contexts to cater to believers cravings. Jesus knew the word, rightly handled and rightly applied it. Good soil (Mat 13) is always equated with he who hears and understands. Understanding is the means by which we have good application; and good application battles the subtle ways of Satan. 2Ti 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth”
