Num 13:30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it”. …14:1, “So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night… complained against Moses and Aaron, …”
One way to tell what’s in the heart is by what comes out of the mouth. Jesus said “…For out of the abundance of the hear the mouth speaks” (Luk 6:45). The tree is known by its fruit namely, the heart by the conversation. “What is in the well will be in the bucket” (Trapp).
Whenever focus shifts from progress to obstacles, people’s vision are clouded with defeat, and past victories become nothing but memories rather than stepping stones. The fountain of the heart is contaminated or corrupted, and words become the stream that flows out what is inside. God has not brought us this far to quit on us. We have gone too far, too deep to go back. What we need is a renewed faith to influence our vision, confessions and actions. Caleb’s vision “victory”; his confession, “we are able”; his action plan, “let’s move in at once and take possession”. The presence of complainers would not shake his faith in God.
