Jhn 9: 29 We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from.” 30 The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!
The individuals involved were firmly convinced that they possessed knowledge about Moses, his purpose, authority, and divine call. However, they seemed to overlook the fact that Moses had prophesied about another after him, someone even greater. Jesus Himself had reminded them of this in Jhn 5:46, saying, “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.” Unfortunately, their failure to comprehend the distinction between the two prophets led them to despise Jesus, referring to Him disrespectfully as a mere “fellow“. By their own self reasoning, they felt they were well-versed in various matters, yet they remained oblivious to the one who truly deserved their recognition, simply because they refused to approach His ministry with open heart and mind. They rejected the remedy without understanding both the remedy itself and their own desperate need for it.
The man who was healed found himself marveling for two reasons. Firstly, he was astonished that the people around him, who were considered knowledgeable and religious, did not recognize this remarkable individual who went about doing good for humanity (Acts 10:38). Secondly, he was amazed that he was the only one in the crowd who perceived Jesus as great and placed his faith in him. While others questioned every aspect of Jesus’ identity, the healed man’s belief in Him grew stronger. Those who have personally experienced the power and grace of the Lord Jesus often find themselves astounded by the stubbornness of those who reject him. They, having such positive thoughts and experiences with Jesus, cannot comprehend why others do not share the same perspective.
