1Pet 2:2-3, 2 As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
There is so much about the milk than just enjoyment and satisfaction. Milk contains protein needed to build and repair body tissues. It forms antibodies which fight infection. To add, milk is known for its richness in calcium and thus its importance in building strong bones. Calcium protects our bodies from bone loss. Milk also has carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and good fat. Now we can see why babies need and crave milk.
New born believers don’t come already mature. They are babes in Christ. Babes hunger for milk. Let babes in Christ earnestly desire the sincere milk of the word. The word is comparable to milk, for its purity and wholesomeness, for its nourishing virtue and easy of digestion. This word is the food upon which Christians must feed in order to grow. This is the proper food for those who have tasted that the Lord is gracious, or been converted. As new born babes desire the pure milk of the word for satisfaction, growth, immunity etc.
