2Sa 12:17 And the elders of his house stood beside him, to raise him from the ground, but he would not, nor did he eat food with them.
David was accustomed to dining with his well respected elders. These would be the same men he would entrust his later son Solomon with. But in his time of distress, fasting and praying, he was not joined by any of them. The elders continued to dine without David. It must have been very discouraging to him to stand alone but he pressed on. Hannah was misunderstood by her husband, the priest, and her rival. She went to the temple alone and poured her heart to God. Similar to the Shunnamite woman whose son died. Her husband and servants had no answer for her, she journeyed to find the prophet of God. Jesus in His hour of anguish in the garden of Gethsemane kept on praying alone even when His disciples fell a sleep rather than watch with Him in prayer. All these people pressed in without frustrations.
It is vital that you do not let the action of other people who seem not to understand the dilemma of your heart or join you to pray slow you down. Confidence in God is to hold on to God without being frustrated even if no one stands with you.
