2Sa 12:18-19, 18 On the seventh day the child died... 19 …when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David understood that the child was dead. And David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
David continuously prayed even when the situation became worse and worse. For 7 days he had been praying without ceasing, and would have continued if life was still in his son. Why did he keep praying? 2Sa 12:22 “He said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?”
This cause of action speaks of the confidence in God I discuss in this series. We cannot be sure, yet let us pray without ceasing, for who can tell if God will be gracious to us, in this or that particular thing we ask of Him. We can journey back to the times our loved one had a great need for intervention and the prayer of faith prevailed much. It is therefore crucial that if its still has life that we be encouraged that there is hope, and, while there is hope, there is room to pray for it.
