Dan 2:1-23, 23 I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand.
Daniel with his friends by petition and thanksgiving had power from God and influence with men. They found favor and good understanding in the sight of both God and men, something we all crave. In this chapter, their plea with God was desperate, they sought the mercy of God to reveal the dream and interpretation in order that they might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. And God answered their prayers.
Notice what Daniel and His friends first did after an answered prayer. Rather than run and give the king the interpretation, that is grab the answered prayer and make use of it, they stopped and dedicated another prayer session, that of praise and thanksgiving. Daniel was thankful to God for making known to him that which the king demanded, and as a result, that saved his life, his friends and those he served with. As with Daniel, we have much more reasons to always praise and be thankful to God for His blessings and making known to us such undeserving the great salvation of our souls. If someone ask me how I make it, I will quickly say, “By the grace of the Lord” the more reasons to praise and give thanks.
