2Sa 16:1-4, When David had passed a little beyond the summit, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of donkeys saddled, bearing two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred of summer fruits, and a skin of wine.
A man by the name Ziba was appointed by David to manage crippled Mephibosheth’s estate (Jonathan’s son), (2Sam 9). This was good occupation for Ziba however, he was not satisfied. He preferred ownership of the estate than to manager it Mephibosheth. This led him to do good to David but with ulterior motives. David fleeing from Absalom his son presented Ziba an opportunity to gain favor by bringing donkeys, bread and wine to David and his people. He did this without his master’s knowledge and deceived both his master and king David. He gave David an impression that Mephibosheth had turned his back against David, and with this, David assigned all that belonged to Mephibosheth to Ziba.
Lack of contentment makes people less grateful and more opportunists. Such people will lie, slander for their own ambitions. If all your good works have strings attached, your motives are wrong. Psa 37:3 reads “Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.”
