Gen 30:1 Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister, and said to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I die!”
Our judgments are clouded when envy dominates our thinking and actions. This may lead to misdirected approach to things. Here is a classic example of a rivalry between two sisters, blood sisters. They were both gifted by God differently but none of then learned to first accept and appreciate what they had been given before desiring more.
Rachel upon seeing Leah her sister with children believed it was Jacob’s fault she was not having children with him as he did with Leah. She forgot that God is the author of life, the one to call upon. How easy it is to turn our focus to man when things are not working and blame others for the predicament we find ourselves in. We can choose to allow situations to provoke us to jealousy or drive us to seek God like Hannah. Psa 118:8 “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man”. Instead of trusting God, she accused her husband. Misguided approach takes focus off God and places it on man. Her confidence was not in her God but in her husband.
