Php 1:9-11, 9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Paul in his Prayer for this church displays the ground for maturing love. This is not warm fussy feeling love but perfecting love, growing in GRACE and TRUTH, (John 1:14) The greater emphasis is the increase in the true knowledge of God. Before we can truly love Him we must know Him. When we know and love Him, we learn to extend that love to our family, brothers in Christ, neighbors, enemies.
This perfecting love provides tools to discern true and false. It provides tools to test fruits and approve what is excellent. This is necessary to growth in purity and righteousness that comes from Him. This perfecting love preserves to the glory and praise of God.
Love without truth strangles growth, truth without love wounds lives. Truth in love blossoms.
