2Ch 16:7 … Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on the Lord your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand
It is a foolish to lean on a broken reed when we have the Rock of ages to rely on. It is dangerous to put confidence in the created rather than the Creator. Any man, nation, church that takes its focus off of God and puts it on Syria (created) has but said God is not sufficient.
In the beginning Asa and his people built buildings, tower, gates, armies as a means if God ever chose to use all, some or none. They valued hard work but never was their confidence in these at that time. And they are reminded, Asa in particular, 2Ch 16:8-9 “8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Libyans a huge army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the LORD, he gave them into your hand 9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.”
The help of every creature must be used with an eye to the Creator, and in dependence on Him, who makes every creature, without whom the most skillful, faithful tools and people fail. It is not the size of your skills, back up or faith that is important, it is the object of your faith. 2Cor 3:4-5 “4 Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God”
