Luk 17:7-9, 7 Will any one of you who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline at table’? 8 Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’? 9 Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded?
Jesus further addresses the subject of faith in a way we rarely think about. Truth be told, most of us define faith as having a greater belief in the Master serving his servants’ needs. True faith is faithfully serving the master’s needs as a duty from what he has given. Increase our faith should mean empower us to be more faithful. There lies the power to overcome what is impossible in our living even with offenses because of the faithfulness of God.
As with the servant performing his duties, the master does not thank him for performing his duties. If anything, the servant should says, “I was being obedient to my assigned task” and in addition, the servant does benefit from his obedience, but obedience does not make him special. My prayer and I hope is yours should be, “Lord help me serve You and others including forgiving with the faith you have given me as it grows and matures from being faithful (faith full). Help me think of faithfulness as a benefit not a reward.”
