Joh 1:45-51, 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him…Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”
Nazareth in Jesus’ time and hometown was not the best to be identified with. Wickedness, meanness, and darkness as Jesus experienced described Nazareth. Who would want to be identified with a mess, broken city? Nathanael could not see beyond the sins and failures in Nazareth, yet Christ came out of Nazareth in spite of its reputation.
“Come and see” or “taste and see” (Psa 34:8) is the best response to the skeptics. Let them be encouraged to come to Christ, let them consider Him, and what He has done for mankind. The strongest proof that Jesus is the Christ is Jesus himself. It is therefore not about a place but the person from the place and what He does. Jesus makes dead men live, turns disappointments into appointments, junks into assets, mess into order, and doubt into faith. He who began a good in you will complete it. Christ in you, the hope of glory.
