Exo 18:5-6, 5 Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife to Moses in the wilderness where he was encamped at the mountain of God.
An episode in Exo. 4 forced Moses’ to send back his family to live with his in-laws for a season while he took a mission to deliver Israel. He had not seen his wife and sons since the day he had sent them back, when a great peril threatened his life. Finally Moses in great victory is out of Egypt with the Israelites. Jethro brings Moses’ family to reunite them. The separation between them was for a time, now it was time to put this vs to practice, “You husbands, dwell with your wives”(1Pe 3:7). But once again, Moses is neglecting his duties, vs. 13 “…on the next day, that Moses sat to judge the people… from morning until evening”. Even with the presence of his family, the very next day, he had time for everyone but his family.
Moses needed his family with him. Jethro his father in-law with great wisdom saw the need to bring his daughter to be reunited to her husband. Moses now needed to set a good example of prudence in family-government (1Ti 3:5), something he was already failing to do. The first relationship ever was that of husband and wife, and should never be lost even when seasons change.
