Isa 61:3 And provide for those who grieve in Zion-to bestow on them a crown of beauty, instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and garment of praise instead of spirit of despair (NIV).
To put on ashes was a proper way to demonstrate a period of mourning, but this mourning was not meant to last forever. And here, the Lord already has a covering ready for those who are mourning, He purposed it in heaven and He is commanding His chosen ones to execute them here on earth by telling them to provide unto the grieving in Zion a crown of beauty, oil of gladness and the garments of praise.
The garment of praise is for the spirit of heaviness, or a glad heart inclined to praise God, in lieu of a heavy one inclined to despair. Many struggle to worship because they are wearing garments of heaviness leading to depression, confusion, brokenness, no joy, but the Lord would have His word come to you who is struggling today, “I have a garment of praise for the spirit of despair to give to you, I will take what you have and replace it with what I have, garments of praise”.
