Gen 16:7-8, 7 The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert. 8, And he said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?”
The first mention of angel of the Lord’s encounter with humans was with Hagar the foreign maid servant. This Angel in light of vs 10 is identified in the OT as the pre-incarnate Christ. She had never encountered with the Lord and her failure would definitely disqualify her and any of us. Yet while she was wandering in the desert lost, she was found by the Lord. The Angel called her by name, and as Sarai’s servant and not as Abram’s wife. He reminded her of her days of humble beginnings, what she had missed.
This verse is an encouragement. It is a great delight to be known, called by name, and be visited especially in trying times The visit is for our comfort, correction, and restoration. Even when we bring things upon ourselves, the Lord knows how to get hold of us and is willing to meet with us, He knows us by name.
