Php 1:25-26, 25 And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith, 26 that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again.
The apostle Pul was torn between going (death) to be with the Lord, the more joyous to him, or staying (living on earth) for the benefit of others. Because He believed God, what a great confidence he had in the divine providence and in His great timing.
We are placed here to work out our own salvation and to benefit each other. The more faith the more joy, and the more faith and joy the more we are furthered in our Christian course. There is need of a settled ministry, not only for the conviction and conversion of sinners, but for the edification of the saints, and their furtherance in spiritual attainments by strengthening their faith. Paul benefitted from the life of his friend Epaphroditus, Php 2:27 ”For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.” As we all have opportunities to pray, I pray for long life but not for my sake primarily but for the benefit of others especially my wife, my family, the ministry etc
