Num 14:8-9, 8 If the LORD delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. 9 Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them.
The focus of the story is God and His glory, Israel was the means and the beneficiary of God’s plans. Caleb in particular had already assured them of the goodness of the land they had surveyed, and that it was really worth venturing. This was a man who had sized up and magnified God first before sizing up the obstacles. In this God was being glorified.
The remaining 10 spies were ready to rob God of His glory by focusing on obstacles and discouraging others from moving forward. As for Caleb and Joshua, God’s great name was in their mind. God’s name thrives in the midst of impossible, He makes much of Himself through His chosen ones. God’s two witnesses did not minimize the strength or the numbers of the foe, they magnified the mighty power of God before them. We are are able for God is able.
