Gen 30:12-13, 12 Leah’s servant Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. 13 And Leah said, “Happy am I! For women have called me happy….
Rachel’s maid by this time bore 2 sons to Jacob while Leah had not had any more sons. Sensing windows of value closing, Leah in similar fashion gave her maid to Jacob to have more sons for her. By the 2nd son, she deemed herself “happy“
Most people value and govern themselves more by reputation. They think of themselves blessed/happy if people note what they have accumulated rather than who they are. This was the competition between these two sisters, the more children they had to their name, the more they felt good and valued. This is where they found their identity. Many stories are told of miserable people that despite the wealth, more toys, won lottery etc they have accumulated to make them happy. Those who find their identity in Christ are the most fulfilled and content people. Php 4:11, “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” Things come and go, they lose meaning, but Christ is the same yesterday, today and forevermore, He changed not. Find your identity in Him.
