1Sam 28:6-7, 6 And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him…7, “Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.”
Saul’s troubles with God was due to “unfaithfulness“. Rather than humble himself to be purged and restored, he sought out the very resource (a medium) he had previously removed from the land.
Disconnection from God causes men to drift or fall back on dead things for help. Ocean currents easily makes ships, boats, people drift from where they need to be. To remain in steadfast, it must be anchored. We must be anchored in Christ in order to be steadfast against the current waves of the world working against us. Awe should grapple with this question along the way “… should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?” (Isa 8:19). Saul chose not to make things right God therefore he was carried away by other waves. “So Saul died for his unfaithfulness…, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance” (1Ch 10:13). What a miserable way to go. A lesson here for us is that faithfulness is the key to go against all opposing currents.
