Gen 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
The history of every temptation to sin is the same from Adam to the present time. Observe how it commenced in this vs, 3 things Eve was tempted with as we all are, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. #1. ”…the woman saw that the tree was good for food…”, this is the lust of the flesh, the outward object of attraction. This was followed by #2. ”…that it was pleasant to the eyes”, the lust of the eyes, the window to man’s soul. And #3. ”… a tree desirable to make one wise”, the pride of life, the inward commotion of mind, the increase and triumph of passionate desire. The result then as in today is degradation, slavery, and ruin of the souls.
This is what the first man Adam exposed us to. The last Adam, that is Christ in the wilderness was tempted with the same 3 temptations as a man and triumphantly overcame them. We are still tempted today with these 3 main temptations. And with this, the eyes inflame passion, but then passion masters the resistance of the will. The body in response obeys its impulses by gratifying itself. This is followed by guilt and remorse hence the need for last Adam without sin as our only hope to save us from sin, 1Co 15:45 “The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.”
