Jas 5:13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
The urge here is the need to pray when facing challenges. It’s as if to say it should come naturally just as when one is chearful, it’s natural for him to smile, be joyous, shout out with excitement and even sing and dance. The expression displayed should indicate the current state of affairs.
In the same manner that you wouldn’t seek someone to celebrate your triumph on your behalf, but rather to celebrate alongside you, we should adopt a similar mindset when it comes to prayer. It is crucial that we take on the role of the burden bearer initially, and if feasible, invite others to share in carrying it with us. Moses was first the bearer of the burden to lift his hands up in order for Israel under the battle commander Joshua to win. At some point, Aaron and Hur joined Moses to assist him in keeping his hands high. John Gill “Times of afflictions are proper times for prayer; there is then more especially need of it; and God sometimes lays his afflicting hand upon his people, when they have been negligent of their duty, and he has not heard of them for some time, in order to bring them near to him, to seek his face, pay him a visit, and pour out a prayer before him; see Psa 50:15. “
