John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you…
I want for a moment to work my way backwards from this verse as many do but with what I believe should be it’s proper application, “…You will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you…”. The first glance at the portion of this verse suggest a blank check to ask for anything one desires. I will be the first to say it is a blank check but a conditional blank check.
This needs to be looked at in the light of who we are in Christ. We should be driven to have the mind of Christ, be His imitators, and be conformed to His image. Before salvation, most of our desires were wrong, selfish desires. Now in Christ, some of those still lingers and must be dealt with continuously in the light of our relations to the Vine. James puts us in check, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask AMISS, that you may spend it on your pleasures” (Jam 4:3). James says often believers don’t ask or ask for the right things with the right attitude or in faith or even with the right timing, therefore they miss. We must therefore know Him through His word that we may know what to ask and for what purpose.

Thank you for reminding us of the biblical and Christ-like context, brother Evans.
